Creating a Cooler Classroom

Summer in Ontario used to mean a couple months of careless fun in shorts and swimsuits.  But it’s important to remember today’s sun, while it looks and feels the same, is very different from 20 yeas ago.

The need to protect oneself from the sun while outdoors is obvious.  We often fail to think, however, how heat from the sun impacts indoor activities.

The students at Hillcrest Elementary in Northeast London, Ontario are all-too-aware of how uncomfortable the sun can make an afternoon in the classroom.  South-facing windows and a lack of air conditioning send the mercury soaring on hot June days -- a real drain on both students and faculty.

Recently, Hillcrest’s home and school association hired Window Film Systems to install solar window film on the school's south-facing windows to reflect the heat from the sun.

With no charge for labour, WFS installed SB-221-CSR bronze window film from Madico.  This product reflects nearly 78% of the sun's heat and will help reduce temperatures in the classroom by four or five degrees.

For more, please see this recent article in the London Free Press.

Solar window film is an excellent option for commercial and residential buildings, both to reduce heat and prevent UV rays from damaging furniture and flooring.  Contact us for more information on our products and installation services.
